Producer Adi Shankar’s Guardians of Justice animated and live-action hybrid superhero satire Netflix show is in competition at Canneseries.

Adi Shankar’s Guardian’s of Justice superhero satire is in competition at Canneseries. Adi Shankar is a producer on such films as Joe Carnahan’s, Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly, the comic-book adaptation Dredd, and the true-life war film, Lone Survivor, with Mark Wahlberg. He is also the creator of the “bootleg” universe, which is a series of live-action shorts on characters owned by other companies. He has produced shorts for the likes of The Punisher, Venom, Power Rangers, and Pokemon, to name a few.

In addition to his live-action work, Shankar is also a producer on Netflix’s animated Castlevania series and is currently at work on an animated adaptation of Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, based on the Ubisoft game. He’s also planning an animated version of PUBG, the popular online shooter game. Shankar is also set to produce a remake of Jee-woon Kim’s 2010 Korean thriller, I Saw The Devil.

Shankar is now set to unveil his latest project, the animation/live-action hybrid superhero satire show, Guardians of Justice, which is on the list at Cannes for their Canneseries competition and featured in a new clip on Screen Rant Plus. The creator says he’s been working on the “pop art superhero themed project” for over six years, which is set to debut on Netflix with a seven-episode season. Shankar says that he had to “battle and conquer physical & mental health” in order to get the project done, which focuses on a group of superheroes who must join together to stop the threat of nuclear war. Take a look at the short clip for Guardians of Justice below:

Shankar has been an outspoken creative force in Hollywood since he arrived and is one of the voices that challenged The Simpson’s portrayal of the Indian-American character of Apu. The producer created a contest back in 2018 that would have fans submit a script that changed Apu to better reflect Indian-Americans and even released an animated trailer over the subject. Eventually, Apu voice actor, Hank Azaria, stepped down from the role and has even apologized for contributing to it.

While the market is getting more and more flooded with superhero shows, both animated and live-action, there’s always room for more so long as they can generate audience interest. Since the popularity of comic book/superhero shows have hit an all-time high, especially with Amazon Prime’s The Boys and Invincible, as well as HBO’s recent mini-series and the catalogue of CW superhero shows, there’s no shortage of content in this arena. Shankar, however, seems to have the pulse of pop-culture projects and with such a deep investment in the material, Guardians of Justice is sure to be something uniquely of his brand.
